EVELYN HARRIS
Founder, Horse Lover, Friend
1935 - 2008

Off you go, your steed awaits,
We’ll carry on behind you -
Your life has not been lived in vain,
Of this we must remind you!
Your Legacy, it grows & grows,
In fact, it’s over-flowing -
The Club means all our future kids,
Will get their chance at showing.
We’ll carry on, in your good name,
And strive to keep it fun,
So horses, ponies, boys & girls,
To Rocky Hills, will come.

We will never forget you.

What was it like for Rocky Hills, back when it all began?
I'm sure it wasn't much different than today, with a handful
of hardworking, horse loving folks doing what they needed
to do to develop the club and provide wonderful horse
activity & events for members of Rocky Hills Horse Club.
Without them, the club would not exist. And Evelyn was
one of the FIRST. Ev was on the first executive, and many
afterward. Sandy, RHHC president, & Ev's daughter in law,
tells me that even after her 18 incredible years of service,
she maintained her membership until she passed away,
quite suddenly, this year, from a very aggressive cancer.
What she left behind is a thirty year legacy of hard work,
and educational & fun horse events for the Bancroft area.

Thankfully, our executive had the foresight to hold a 30 year
anniversary dinner, and pay tribute to those that began the
Club so many years ago. I know, from personal conversation,
that Evelyn was positively beaming to be recognized for her
contributions. How often do we forget to tell those around us
how much we appreciate them? Evelyn was a very hard working
individual, and would wave off the applause - but how nice that
she had a chance to get the thanks she deserved (along with others)
for laying the foundation for what has become an incredible club.

For those who knew her, Evelyn was a going concern. No one
could hold a candle to the meticulous horse care she provided
at her farm, co - owned and co - run with her son & daughter,
Ted and Sandy Cole. Why just this year, Grandview Ranch,
their farm, hosted a clinic with a World Class Gold Medal
Winning Grand Prix Show Jumper (Danny Foster) and we
at Rocky Hills were PROUD to have the event on her grounds.
Sadly, Evelyn was only able to watch from the window - but I
am sure she was glowing with pride that her farm would be the
choice of the club to hold this prestigious event. How happy she
must have felt, to see all the trailers and fabulous horses streaming
around the farm she loved so much! Evelyn's long time dream was
to own just such an establishment - how wonderful that she could
live the dream, before her time was cut far too short.

Gone but not forgotten - we'll really miss you, Evelyn!
